Wines

2017 Chardonnay
Sta. Rita hills, California

From a cool climate vineyard in Central Coast California, this wine shimmers along a knife-edge of ripeness. Elegant and long, with lemon blossom, citrus curd, and sea salt flavours rising out of a core of crushed rock. There is an umami character here that I find somewhat addictive.

Pure and electric.

Fermented and aged in neutral barrels, wild primary and malolactic fermentations.

66 cases produced.

2018 Pinot Noir
Valli Vineyard, WaiTaki

Waitaki means limestone. Limestone means perfumed aromatics and the finest tannin/acid structure. 2018 was a warm season, which suited the Waitaki down to the chalky ground. Picked a full month later than the Central Otago Pinot, the long growing season translates into complex florals, which make me swoon, and then vibrant red berries and pomegranate flavours on the palate.

Fine and complete.

50% whole bunch, gentle foot treading, neutral barrels, wild primary and malolactic fermentations.

70 cases produced.

2018 Pinot Noir
van der mark vineyard, central otago

Central Otago means schist and reflective light. A warmer, darker flavour profile than the Waitaki but still poised and detailed. Different soils produce different shapes across the palate — these Pinot Noirs are texturally distinct. This is a precise wine of wild berries, aromatic spices, and a touch of iron. Succulent and a little shy, with a juicy heart.

Harmonious and composed.

50% whole bunch, gentle foot treading, neutral barrels, wild primary and malolactic fermentations.

70 cases produced.
